How to Avoid Halloween Eye Emergencies

Many people wait for Halloween eagerly since it is the best time to try out their makeup and crazy costumes. However, the makeup may consist of face paint and contact lenses. These may be potentially harmful to your vision. Although you may want to look your best, it is crucial to be careful. Your vision is a vital part of your well-being. So how do you take care of your eyes this Halloween?

Here are some tips to help you out.

Read Instructions

Make sure to read the instructions on any package before using or applying it to your skin. Check the ingredients and ensure there is nothing that can harm your skin and eyes. Take note of any product that you should not apply around your eyes.

Avoid applying any makeup on the skin around your eyes or in them. Let the products remain at the cheekbone and eyebrow bone levels.

Look for Hypoallergenic Products

Avoid using makeup that you do not use all year long on your eyes. Look for hypoallergenic products if you need anything apart from what you have. That way, you will avoid unexpected reactions resulting in eye emergencies.

Test the Product

Before using a product, test it. It may mean that you will have to buy your products weeks before. It will help you be sure which one works for your skin. Otherwise, you may get a skin irritation that ends your trick or treating.

Avoid face paint or additives that do not have FDA approval. Otherwise, you may be putting yourself in danger. Also, avoid using glitter at all costs. The particles could harm your eyes if they get into them. Instead, use shimmery eye shadow if your look requires sparkles around your eyes. Ensure that the eye shadow is hypoallergenic. Otherwise, it may also lead to irritation, scratching, and an infection.

Avoid Sharing Makeup

Sharing makeup is never a good idea, whether it is during Halloween or not. Makeup can store bacteria that you can transfer onto your eyes. Use your makeup because you can’t be sure how someone else takes care of their makeup. Avoid mishaps and infections that may cause you to stay home and recuperate for some time.

If you use makeup and realize it has a strange smell, throw it out. The odor could be from expiration or contamination. Hence, get rid of it.

Beware of Pointy Props

Be careful of any props with pointy tips. Wands, sickles, sticks, or swords can harm your eyes. If you carry these types of additions to the costume, take care of how you handle them. Avoid pointing them at other people or you could harm their eyes.

Be Cautious of Contact Lenses

Talk to your eye doctor if you need to wear contact lenses to enhance your costume. Over-the-counter contact lenses can harm your eyes. They can scratch your cornea and cause an infection. They may also cause an allergic reaction that could result in vision loss.

Remove Your Makeup

At the end of the day, remove your makeup when you get home. Avoid sleeping in it. It can clog your pores and cause acne or other reactions. When you finish with your look, let your skin and eyes breathe as you sleep.
